The Book of the Vision of Ezra is one of the most remarkable of the Apocryphal works. It gives poignant expression to the bewilderment and the intellectual and emotional struggles of the generation that witnessed the Destruction, as they strove to overcome despair in the wake of the fall of the Second Temple. Through the poetic nature of its language and the vividness of its imagery, the cry of that generation has been preserved across the divide of time,

while its reflections raise eternal questions regarding human existence. This edition presents a new translation—accurate, faithful, and highly readable—based on the book’s versions in various languages, and above all on the two versions closest to the lost original: the Latin and the Syriac.
