Printed Israel Wolf Ed. 1956.
Israel Wolf’s operation specialized in preserving and reprinting foundational Hasidic texts for the growing post-WWII Orthodox community in Brooklyn. One of his most notable projects was a well-known 1956 reprint edition of the Noam Elimelech
Approbation (Haskamah).
The certificate of honor of the holy and righteous Rabbi, the holy lamp, the illuminating mirror, the wonder of the generation and its glory, the splendor of Israel, pure mouth and holy mouth, his holy eminence, our teacher and master Ezekiel Shraga Halberstam, of blessed and holy memory, from Shinova.
Behold, some time ago, the woman Mrs. Devorah, widow of the outstanding and late our teacher and master Asher Schtram, of blessed memory, from Trana, told me of her desire to publish the book Noam Elimelech. I told her that this is a good thing, provided it is done with beauty and splendor, unlike those that were printed in a blurry fashion.
She said she would print it exactly like the first edition printed by the author’s son, of blessed and holy memory. And now, she has brought the printed booklets, and behold, they are highly magnificent and beautiful. Therefore, it is right and proper that no one else should print this book until she sells the books she has printed—namely, for six years from the time of printing—so that those engaged in a commandment (mitzvah) do not suffer a loss. Surely, the remnant of Israel will do no injustice, and the merit of the author will protect us and all of Israel to save us from all evil and to bestow upon us good blessings until he redeems us in an eternal redemption, speedily in our days, Amen.
The words of the one who signs here, the eve of Wednesday, [the week of Torah portion] “And for all the children of Israel there was light,” the eve of Rosh Chodesh Shevat, in the year of Joy [5656 / January 1896].
