The Greek-English lexicon of Liddell – Scott – Jones gives the Novels and Edicts of Justinian as one of the works excerpted. In this book the author lists all those words, phrases, and grammatical phenomena that have been omitted or treated incompletely in Liddell – Scott – Jones. In his one departure from the practice of Liddell – Scott – Jones the author also registers every word or phrase in any way derived from, or influenced by, Latin. In consequence, this work contains a number of calques or loan translations from Latin, most of them not previously recognized in scholarly literature.
This book follows Avotins’ study of the same kind on the Codex Iustinianus (On the Greek of the Code of Justinian, Hildesheim 1989).
